Chukars end first half with 11-1 loss to Ogden

The Idaho Falls Chukars ended the first half of the season with a thud, falling 11-1 to the Ogden Raptors at Melaleuca Field on Sunday.

The Chukars took a 1-0 lead in the third when Julio Aparicio hit a towering fly ball that carried over the wall just inside the left field foul pole. It was the second homer of the year for the left fielder, who is hitting .190 on the season.

That was as good as it got for the Chukars offense, which was held to two hits by three Ogden pitchers.

Ogden starter Matt Magill held the Chukars to two hits and one run in five innings to earn the win. Two relievers, Eric Thompson and Luis Ferreras, pitched no-hit ball the remaining four innings.

Chukars starter Bryan Paukovitz did his part. The 6-foot-7 right hander held Ogden to two runs on six hits in four innings of work.

But the powerful Ogden lineup went to work on reliever Mitch Hodge, scoring four runs on four hits and two walks before Hodge recorded an out and turning a 2-1 lead into a 6-1 drubbing.

Matters only worsened for the Chukars from there. Ogden continued piling on, racking up 17 hits, including a home run by Chris Jacobs.

The Chukars (10-16) travel to Orem for a three-game series starting Monday.
